Southwest Med Evac's clinical services are always improving and expanding. We encourage all Flight Paramedics to become CCEMTP certified as well as FP-Certified. Our Flight Nurses are encouraged to acquire either CFRN, CEN, or CCRN and their Paramedic License as well.
Our protocols are revised and rewritten yearly with input from crewmembers as well as management and our team of Medical Directors. Our protocols, like most aero medical programs, rely almost exclusively on standing orders and we depend on our crews to make clinical decisions as a team. All bases operate on the same protocols.
Southwest Med Evac offers amongst it's therapies, Sternal IO access using the F.A.S.T. 1® system as well as having been successful in acquiring SPECIAL SKILL authorization from the New Mexico EMS Bureau for Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI), femoral line placement, Rapid Infusion Catheter (RIC) placement, chest tube thoracostomy and pericardiocentesis.
Our program commonly flies all ranges/types of patients, from pediatrics to geriatrics, high-risk OB, inter facility and scene. (We do have cut-offs for high-risk OB as well as neonate/infant patients). Common destinations include Albuquerque & Las Cruces, NM; El Paso, Lubbock, Abilene, Midland/Odessa and Dallas, TX.
