My heart goes out to all the familys. I lost my sister in this tragedy. But she was not only my sister she was a mother to three daugthers Shelly, Denna, and Jessica. She was the best mother she only thought about bettering their lifes together. She was getting everything ready for the family to be together in New Mexico. WE WILL ALWAYS MISS YOU DEANNA

I knew Brian when he was younger and had just graduated from nursing school. For those that knew Brian, knew he had recovered from a major motorcyle accident in his younger years and nursing is what gave him the will to live again. This tragedy has touched my heart as I lost a 2.5 year old grandbaby 4 years ago and know how hard it is to accept that God has a plan (even though we don't understand it). May GOd Bless you all as you struggle to accept this, my prayers are with all the families, not just Brian's. Debbie

I had the great privilege of knowing Ricky and Brian well, as a former Roswell based SWME pilot. I didn't get to meet Deanna, but feel her loss as well, knowing the close knit family that the Roswell base is and was during my time. Ricky loved the Lord and doted on his grandkids, Brian loved his work and was a true professional. I am truly grateful to the Lord for the time that these guys touched my life. And my prayers are also with the family and friends of Tracy and Lilly, who embody the reason we do what we do. Bill Teasdale, Sioux Falls, SD.
I only knew Deanna, having worked with her at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, Az. I never saw her without a smile and she always greeted those she knew with a hug. I looked foward to coming to work everyday knowing that one of my favorite medics would be there. Deanna had a great sense of humor, outstanding at her job and loved her girls dearly. I still picture her smile and great laugh, it was hard when she left YRMC to move to New Mexico to do what she loved, it will be even harder to imagine her never coming back at all. My greatest sympathy goes out to her family, and the rest of the families who lost their love ones on that fateful flight. Randi Gnagey, RN; YRMC, Prescott AZ.

To all of the families and friends of those lost, they are not lost if they are never forgotten. PEACE BE WITH YOU.
When you die living your dream and helping others in the process, there is no greater ending to your life story. We all have a life story, there are chapter filled with pain and heartache and others filled with exuberant elation. I assure you, Deanna, Ricky & Brian were living a dream. I was with Deanna when she took her first flight in the helicopter. Elation doesn’t even begin to describe her in that moment. Brian was a committed Flight Nurse that loved what he did and Ricky, well Ricky was happiest in the air. To fly is a thrill unlike any other, but to treat the sick and injured in the process makes the moments unspeakably wonderful. Those of us left behind are now entering a tougher chapter in our life story. There will be many painful nights. As we remember that Brian, Ricky & Deanna gave there lives doing what they loved that gives us the courage to continue on with the missions they gave there lives to complete. Those memories will bring us through to the happier chapters. Brian, Ricky & Deanna, I wish you smooth air and beautiful sunrises as you continue on your flight into eternity. Brian Miller was a part of our EMS family from the time he became an EMT, on through EMT-P. He had that quirky sense of humor that always made you laugh. We worked with Brian for years here at Denver City EMS and were saddened to see him move away. He came through a horrific motorcycle crash with his humor still intact, and decided at that point to pursue a career in nursing. Our EMS family here is devastated at his loss, and grieve with you. He will be missed. But I can hear him now..."hey, I was doing what I loved right up to the very end". God bless your family there and give you strength and healing. Tomorrow, reality will set in as we come together to honor and pay respect to the heroes of Southwest Medevac 2 – Ricky, Brian, Deanna, their families, the family of Lilly and Tracy Smith, and the entire Southwest Medevac family. Every one of us knows that Ricky, Brian and Deanna paid the ultimate sacrifice while doing what they loved – caring for others, serving others. Only a chosen few have the luxury of answering Gods call to come home at such an honorable time. There is no greater tribute that than. They surely have their “golden wings” now. May God bless each of you with strength, and comfort you during this difficult time. David Mosley LP, CCEMTP (former Silver City, NM flight medic)
have you ever believed in angels on earth they are the simple hero's that may save our lives or may make you realize that something is more important then you think when least exspected whats gained may be lost... whats lost may be found... and whats taken for granted may be quickly found not so easy to find. its amazing what you realize when you dont want to notice it. i have learned that hero's will never be just a memory and if so they will be wonderful thoughts. hero's are only angels to begain with then in a heart beat, gone not to just be lost, only to be found found to protect loved ones and to watch over those who need to be closely observed death is only a part of life, and with every moment of life is a new begaining. rest in peace and may all the thoughts and prayers be with the southwest medevac team and families. -Chantelle Carr

Brian Miller, Ricky Byers and Deanna Palmer’s families need to know that to all of us who fly and all the people they helped as practitioners… they are heroes. Don J. Vasquez, Flight Paramedic, CYFD Battalion Chief, Ret.
A light has gone out in my life.... I have worked with Deanna for many years at YRMC and her spirit and smile will be horribly missed. My heart goes out to her daughters and family as well as the families of the other 4 who died in this tragedy. Words cannot express this kind of loss. I pray, Deanna, that we will meet again in Eternity. Michelle Key, RN, Yavapai Regional Medical Center ED, Prescott, Arizona
Deepest sympathies to all family members involved. Deanna always had a hug and a smile along with a bag of dark chocolate m&m's to graze on. All about patient care, she was one of our greatest assets. You are greatly missed and will always be greatly admired. Altair
We have all been touched by the crew and passengers of N369CD. Some of us had the distinct privelage of knowing them personally, but all knew that they knew the risks, and did the job not only inspite of risk, but because of it. It is a job that few have the strength to do. All who knew Deanna, Brian, and Ricky, knew that they were not only good at what they did, but loved it with a passion. An old flight poem: Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue, I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high untresspassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God. God bless these 3 caring angels, and the amazing mother and daughter who were so tragically lost with them.

Med Evac Prayer Lord, keep us on a steady course And grant us grace to give, Hope to those in hopelessness, To the crushed, the will to live. Protect us on our voyage, While for ill and injured, fly, Nearing Heaven’s threshold, In the expanse of changing sky. Deliver us, to deliver those, Who have the greatest need – For as long is there is suffering, The call, we hear, and heed. Shelter us in tempest, And keep us safe from harm, As we rush to the wailing – Of each conveyed alarm. Might we never hesitate, Nor from the challenge shrink – As we embark on saving souls, From Death’s disgruntled brink. By chance, we then should falter, Grant, we should safely land – And keep us ever guarded, With Your Almighty hand. Guide us in our journeys, Both there, and safely back – Your Angels bearing up the wings, Of the Southwest Med Evac. Dedicated to my daughter: Jannah Carson/NREMTP, Rotor-wing Southwest Med Evac, Clovis, N.M., In memory of the downed Southwest Med Evac Flight N369CD, August 5, 2007 Crew: Pilot Ricky Byers, 56, of Dimmitt, Texas, Flight Nurse Brian Miller, 44, of Roswell, Paramedic Deanna Palmer, 40, of Prescott Valley, Ariz. On behalf of the Parkland Paramedic Honour Guard in Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada, we wish to express our deepest condolences to the Byers, Miller, Palmer, and Smith families, as well as the entire staff of Southwest Med Evac. Our thoughts are with you.
No matter the circumstances, 3 good people gave their lives to try and make the life of a mother and child better, god bless them as well. You know in the back of the crews minds they always knew something like this was possible, but they put that aside and didnt ever let that discourage them from their mission to help another human being. I truly believe God has a special place in his heaven for those who serve others. God Bless all of them!!! (Mike Norris Air Evac Lifeteam Saint Louis MO)
I give me deepest condolences to all who died in the crash. But most especially to the family of Deanna. I spoke with her about 2 months ago, and she told me about her upcoming career. I was excited for her. I only found out about the incident today - 8/10 and was shocked - to say the least. From the moment we met, several years ago, we became friends. She was just a sweet and wonderful person - a ray of sunshine. If there is some silver lining to all this, I would say she has gone on to her rest doing a hero's job. She has given me one more reason to be proud to be a paramedic. God Bless her daughters through this tough time - she is in his care. Michael Clonts CEP - Lifeline Ambulance /FF Verde Valley Fire District

My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those lost. May the pain ease as time slips by. It will never leave, but the memories will help it to be less as each day passes.

I've thought for so long about what to write here. The last few days have been overwhelming for all of us. I don't know if my words will comfort you now. But, I can tell you this... In the short time I dealt with your crew, moments before their takeoff, I was struck by the obvious pleasure they seemed to take in performing their work. Smiles on all 3 faces. And I know for certain that their mission was worthwhile, was noble, and is one we will all continue to perform with dignity, compassion and professionalism. Just as they did. Just as they would wish for us. As for myself, I will strive to let my patients see in my eyes, what I saw in Brians that night. May you find peace and bask in your memories. Robin Behl-Paramedic-Ruidoso EMS
I grew up with Ricky in west Texas and was deeply saddened to hear of this tragic event and the loss of lives while in the line of duty and service. It is with great compassion that I truly pray that God's grace will be sufficient in this time of sorrow (II Cor 12:9)for the crew and passenger's families as they learn to continue life without their loved ones. God's plans are much greater than we can ever know and I pray and trust that something good can come out of this. May God Bless each of the lives that these folks have touched during their lifetime. Sam Parish, Fort Worth, Tx
May you rejoice in their laughter, cherish their smiles, remember their love, and be strong in your memories of them. Time passes, memories remain. a mom

Deanna Palmer was a wonderful person. She put her heart and soul into everything that she did, including being the best mother to her girls. I don't think that it was even possible to meet Deanna and not be positively affected by her. From the bottom of my heart, I offer my deepest condolences to those who were affected by Deanna and the other people aboard the plane. ~Taylor~

Deanna was a good friend and mentor that I had the privalege of working with at Lifeline Ambulance in Prescott, Arizona. She was a great person, always made things better when they were bad, always helped out when and where ever she could, and always had a smile on her face to brighten up the day. She lived quite the life in such a short time. She had a good heart and spirit that will be missed. I know that from where she is now, she is watching over what she thought the world of, her daughters. She will be greatly missed. I recently, yet belatedly, heard of the crash of N369CD, in New Mexico. I wish to extend my condolences on your loss. I am a Paramedic and 9-1-1 dispatcher here in Altoona, PA and I understand how close crew members get with each other and with their patients. I felt an unusual sense of loss when I read the article in our local newspaper. The tradgic loss of fellow providers or patients is never easy. The entire Blair Co. Dept of Emerg. Svcs. Comm Center also extends its condolences and know that all members of the crew, other employees, the patients and all the families are in our prayers. May God Speed. Dutch Yeisley, Traing Ofcr
To Our Southwest MedEvac Family – I hope you have enough. Enough strength, enough courage, enough hope. Enough to keep going, even if you think you can’t. You are the guardians of Life, so that others may live. You are the Angels who walk the Earth, who soar through The deep blue skies, so that others may have hope, find peace. Some may say that “First Class” is the best, the only way to fly. I know better. There is no greater way to fly in our earthly world, than to Fly for Life. Keep on flying, Brothers and Sisters. Fly for Life. Thank you, for all that you do. In Loving Memory of N369CD – Brian Miller, Deanna Palmer, Ricky Byers With great love, Brian’s Daughters Shelby Miller and Jennifer (Miller) Noles
I woke up to the news on Monday morning and my life has changed and will never be the same. You see people on the news talking about someone who was killed and they never say a bad thing about them. It's hard to beleive that there are that many good people out there... but Deanna was one of them. Everything you read in these comments is an understatment of the person she was. She was always encouraging me to stay in EMS even when It hought I couldn't make it. When I think of the mother and paramedic I eventually want to be, I see her... Deanna I love you. I prayed for a mentor and God gave me you even if it was for just alittle while. I know you are up there wishing everyone wouldn't be so sad... but I'm a little jealous of the angels who get to listen to your cheesy jokes. Jessie Key EMT YRMC/LifeLine Prescott az
My family will pray for you in this tragedy. God weaps for you. Erin Eachus Reed 1957-2005
Our daughter, Renee McColgan-Smith, is a nurse for S.M.E. She knew the pilot and the nurse. When she phoned us to ask us to pray, we did so and will continue to pray for the families, and hope that they will be comforted and strengthened by God's presence. The McColgan family
My Aunt Deanna will be missed by her whole family, knowing your in a better place knowing that we have you looking down on us knowing one day we will all join you high above the clouds so until then we all love ya very much and we will always Love remember you.... Nephew Mike Wonderly
To Southwest Medevac: I am so very sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathy. Marie Flanigan
I am a cousin of Pansy Byers, Ricky's wife. Ricky has been part of this family for so long. He was a wonderful man, and such a loving husband & father. My thoughts and prayers are with you all everyday, every hour. We will truly miss Ricky. Cheri Brueggemann Sloat
So sorry for the loss of the crew and passengers. To the surviving families you have my deepest sympathies. Unfortunately I did not personally know any of them. Over my aviation career I have lost friends and associates and it's never an easy loss. To the remaining crews, you have a valuable job to do, get back on the horse that threw you and carry on. Tommy Sherman Lockney, TX
Oh Deanna, I only just found out this morning that you have crossed the veil and returned to our home in the eternities. I hope you will forgive me for not being as good a friend to you as you were to me. I will miss the countless hours that we talked on the phone, the secrets, hopes and dreams that we shared as well as our love for the gospel. The one thing I will remember the most is the love you have for your children & family and your love for the Savior and your willingness to share your testimony with everyone without shame. Your goodness and love of Christ is a light that has spread and touched many hearts and cannot be removed nor forgotten. I shall miss you while I yet dwell upon this earth, but we will meet again, and what a grand reunion it shall be when we meet in Zion. I will pray for your daughters always and keep them close in my heart. I hope that I can live my life half as good as you have lived yours. I will try harder to be a little better and do a little more, to share more love and perform good deeds, and sprinkle a little kindness everywhere I go, just like you. Well done thou good and faithful servant. I love you Dee...your friend, Kim in Indiana. God bless all those who have suffered loss and have heavy hearts from this tragedy.
We do not understand when things like this happen, but our prayers are with you. The service that you have given to others throughout the years have been greatly appreciated. Dub and Jontha Mercer
DeAnna I'm sorry this is so late I have taken your death fairly hard. I am so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful person to this place. Your children need to realize all that you have accomplished for them even through the pain of your loss. I know you are now flying gracfully with the angels and looking down upon us watching over us. I love you and miss you but will never forget you. YOur family here on earth are in my prayers. ERIKA @ YRMC
We will Never Forget! In honor of them all, we say thank you for your service. You are in our thoughts and prayers. AMR Dona Ana County.
To my South West Friends. My Heart was heavy when I saw the news of your crash. I attended a NAACS Class at your place in 2004 and had the pleasure of meeting Ricky, he was a very nice man. Please know you are all in my thoughts. Chris Smith Flight For Life of Colorado St. Anthony's Communications Denver Colorado.
They say with time it gets easier but it's been three weeks now and to me its still hard. I guess it's because we didnt get to say goodbye.. Deanna I'm tring to be strong. But everyday I cry knowing your not here. You were a great sister and I will never forget that. Knowing your in heavan looking out for us is a blessing. I remember last year when Dad was in the hospital what a big help you were for us. Dad loved when you cooked his breakfast. I will always miss you. I hope your girls understand what you have done for them. Deanna don't stop smiling because everyone you touch loved your smile. Bye Deanna I love you lots. Janelle
